Wastewater Collections

Crew working

Overview

The Wastewater Collections team operates and maintains about 800 miles of City-owned sanitary sewers. The team also supports the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission (MWMC) in maintaining regional wastewater facilities and pump stations, the biosolids facility, and Springfield pump stations.

In addition to operating and maintaining the wastewater collection system, the Wastewater Collections team performs maintenance repairs on the public portion of the collection system identified through inflow and infiltration (I&I) investigation efforts. Maintenance repairs typically consist of isolated spot repairs, short pipe section replacements, repairs of service taps and lines, and rehabilitation of cleanouts and manholes, along with redirecting flow from cross-connected catch basins.
