Eugene Springfield Fire Regional Training Center
The Eugene Springfield Fire Training Section provides training to 246 line-level Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMTs to fulfill local, state, and internal training mandates. Training Section staff includes a Training Chief, two (2) Training Captains, an EMS Training Coordinator, a Training Officer, a Training Instructor, two (2) EMS/Fire Instructors, a Video Technician and administrative support staff.
The Training Section offers varied, multi-discipline emergency response field training, both of a didactic and practical fashion. Helping to facilitate this effort is a host of well-maintained and supported infrastructure. A 2.5 acre drill field at our emergency services center is outfitted with a three story class A burn building, six story brick training tower, 2500 square foot rescue house, a car extrication field, confined space underground network, and a hazardous material tank farm and railroad tank car. Other training adjuncts available for use includes multiple classrooms; a state of the art computerized driving simulator and a similarly outfitted Command Training Center (CTC).
Ongoing training provided for firefighters includes initial Recruit Firefighter Academy training, EMT medical continuing education, community-based training, special teams training (Hazardous Materials, Confined Space, Water Rescue, Airport Operations), incumbent firefighter maintenance training, regional partner-based emergency service training, and employee development training. Most continuing education is offered within a two year recertification cycle. Employee development programs are offered in a year-long training cycle. Recruitment, hiring processes, and internal promotional processes are other examples of ancillary duties assigned to the Training Section.
