The Mayor's Art Show (MAS) is a long-standing annual exhibition that celebrates and showcases local artists in Eugene’s public spaces. As part of Visual Arts Week, the exhibition recognizes the accomplishments of those who are committed to enriching our community through visual arts. We believe art transforms cultural landscapes, invokes meaningful dialogues and inspires people of all ages and backgrounds. We envision a city of community members whose success, safety and health are not pre-determined by their race, class, sexual orientation, gender, age, mental or physical ability.
The exhibition will be held online and will be on display in the downtown Eugene Public Library, second floor starting October 6.
Opening Reception
October 6 • 6-8 p.m. | Free
Join us for the opening of the 2023 Mayor’s Art Show during Lane Arts Council’s First Friday ArtWalk. Take in the dozens of 2D, 3D and digital artwork entries in this year’s exhibit while enjoying live music by Katie Sontag and a special live painting experience by featured artist Kendra Carnes. Kendra Carnes, one of this year’s Mayor’s Art Show entrants, will be live painting her latest artwork series in the library during the reception. View her unique process to capture US consumerism culture and our “inevitable garbage participation.” Before Kendra paints, she creates headpieces made from post-consumer found and collected artifacts for her models to wear. Enjoy watching her creative practice in action and be sure to look for her artifacts in the show.

Maude Kerns: Teen Mayor's Art Show
September 8-29, 2023
MAS is partnering with the Maude Kerns' 24th annual Mayor’s Teen Art Show. The Mayor’s Teen Art Show includes artists 13–19 years of age, living in the greater Eugene area. The exhibition showcases artwork in a wide variety of mediums by 32 talented teens from 11 schools in Eugene. The following awarded artworks will be included in the 2023 MAS:

Salon Des Refusés
October 6-27, 2023
In the spirit of celebrating the visual arts and artists, those who are not selected for entry into MAS have the option to participate in the Salon des Refusés exhibition with our community partners at New Zone Gallery. The Salon des Refusés is a tradition we hold dear and highlights even more artists in our community. MAS has limited space to showcase artists and we are honored to partner with New Zone Gallery for more opportunities to present new, local artwork.
Curator’s Statement
The 2023 Mayor’s Art Show jurors sought to include a variety of artists, art practices and materials. The 42 artworks exhibited in the show represent a diverse breath of art mediums, ranging from oil and acrylic paints to wood, metal, stone, video and textile.
This collection of local and regional artists is woven together through shapes, patterns and colors, creating texture and rhythm that unites the exhibition. There is a common thread weaving artists together. Artists explore the beauty and connection to the natural world and bear witness to humanity's precarious relationship to the earth. Themes of nature, consumerism, climate change and farming emerged. Through the process of making, artists transverse the landscape of memory, trace the lines of ancestry and celebrate the transformative power of art.
What we know is, art is essential to our humanity, our growth, our future and our ability to move through the world. This year’s exhibition is a call for sustainability and our connection to place.
