Water bottle refilling stations help reduce event waste.
Disposable plastic water bottles are a source of waste across the United States and only a fraction of these bottles are ever recycled---leading to substantial impacts on our rivers, oceans, and landfills.
The City of Eugene’s Water Station Project has partnered with Lane County Waste Management to expands access to water bottle refilling stations for regional events through the Sustainable event Services Program, launched in 2023. This new program will provide up to ten water stations to any public event with an anticipated attendance of 250 people or more, and delivery and set up services are provided by Action Rent-All, a local event services contractor, for a low fee. The SES Program also includes access to low cost reusable dishware, cups and utensil service for large-scale events.
Eugene’s water refilling stations have already helped reduce numbers of discarded single use bottles at local events, and including water refilling stations highlights the importance of our local water resources while ensuring access to clean drinking water for all attendees.
