Rec Bond Projects
Our community has voiced its support for the future of Eugene Parks and Rec with the $39.35 million bond and $3.15 million levy passed in May 2018. Now we are taking the first steps to bring the 30-year System Plan vision to life.
Rec is hard at work on our bond goals of caring for and making the most of what we have and serving the entire community. We have begun the design phases of the two top bond priorities: renovations and expansions to Campbell Community Center and Echo Hollow Pool & Fitness Center. Below is an update on both projects.
These are just the first steps in a much larger 30 year System Plan that was created based on feedback you’ve given us over the last three years.
Over the coming months and years, we will be asking for your thoughts once again on specific projects as we start to dig in. Stay tuned, and thanks again for your vote of support!

Sheldon Pool & Fitness Center to reopen Sept. 26
The long-awaited reopening will start with a phased reintroduction of programming. The 55-year-old facility in the Cal Young neighborhood closed in late Spring 2021 for expansion and renovation, thanks to funding from the Parks and Recreation Bond measure passed by Eugene voters in May 2018.
“We’re really excited to finally unveil Sheldon Pool to the community,” Recreation Director Craig Smith said. “The unique warm-water pool and current channel provide versatile programming space that serves fitness, recreation and swim lesson needs. The Sheldon Pool renovation creates program opportunities that don’t exist at Echo Hollow or Amazon, meaning they're a good addition to our overall aquatics' services.” Read more about the renovation. Pool Opening June 21, 2021
After more than a year of construction, Echo Hollow Pool & Fitness Center is ready to reopen Monday, June 21, 2021. The upgraded pool will meet increased demand for recreation and competitive swimmers as well as more locker room space, a large lawn and new activity pool. Even though the facility is open starting Monday, registration will be required for all swim and fitness programs. There won’t be any drop-in availability until OHA COVID guidelines change.

Campbell Community Center is the second oldest senior center on the west coast and has been serving Eugeneans since 1968 with the last major expansion completed in 1990.
The aging facilities in for a major renovation with plans to nearly double the square footage and add much more room for fitness activities.
In September 2019, early site development and excavation began and construction on the 5,745 square-foot expansion began in February 2020. We're hopeful a grand re-opening will happen in the spring of 2021.
